Desktop and online versions showing different libraries

I use Zotero (free version) for work and for university, using the same login for both.

My desktop application at work shows references and folders that I have added to it at work and the shared library I use at work, which syncs well when other users add to it. But it shows none of my university files.

Meanwhile the online version and the desktop version on my personal laptop show the refs and folders I have added for uni, synced with each other, but none of my work refs or shared library. So my account seems to be running two unsychronised libraries consecutively.

My understanding is that all folders should show on all versions/applications. Am I wrong or is there a fix?
  • My home laptop is syncing to the online library; my group library is also visible online; my work laptop is syncing with the group library; so syncing must surely be enabled.
    It's just the folders in My Library are totally different on each computer. My work laptop uses a VPN - could that have something to do with it? It seems to be that machine that it telling me that it's syncing, but actually it only syncs the group library.
