Zotero doesn't recognize journal articles, won't retrieve PDF's

I'm having issues with the Zotero connector on Google Chrome (Windows 10). I am logged in via my institution, and when I navigate to a journal article the Zotero connector won't save the PDF or retrieve the metadata. It will only save a snapshot of the web page. What's going on here? It was working fine last week. I tried it in Incognito mode and with various journals (which have worked before), with no success. Since I switched from Endnote to Zotero, this connector feature has only worked about 50% of the time.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the connector solved the problem. Is there any info as to why this keeps occurring or how to prevent it in the future? I have had multiple issues with the connector and it is causing a lot of wasted time trying to troubleshoot.
