Changing fields in a reference type

Is there a way to change the default fields in a reference type? Suppose, for example, if I wanted the record for reports to include a field for ISBNs. How would I add that field as a default to the record type?

You can't currently change anything about item types.

(But you can use the Extra field to manually add any additional information, such as ISBN: 97812345.... It won't be searchable/sortable in the normal way, but would be available for use in citations as needed.)
