Missing literature from desktop AND online library

Hello Zotero community! I am desperate for some help--specifically, for help retrieving some missing literature from both my desktop and online Zotero library.

In essence, I reset my PC a few days ago as part of my yearly cleaning ritual. After reinstalling Zotero and syncing it with my account (which I've done previously with little issue) , I realized that my desktop library was only syncing literature I had saved up until 08/12/2019. My online library looks to only have files up until this date as well. Is it possible that my last four months of work have not been syncing with my library?!

As it currently stands, I cannot find any of the literature I have added since August. My fingers are crossed that it might be saved on a server somewhere, especially since most of the literature was added using the Firefox extension. If not, then I'd at least like an explanation for why my account stopped syncing automatically.

I take full responsibility for having not backed up my library on an external drive :( I guess I've learned my lesson.

Yes, you haven't synced any data to the online library since August 4th. I'm afraid we can't tell you more than that. When syncing is failing, a sync error icon appears next to the sync button, and you'd need to click that for more info.

It's absolutely essential that you make a backup of your entire computer before wiping it. This isn't specific to Zotero at all — wiping your disk without making a full backup immediately before is just something you should never, ever do.
  • Gotcha. I figured it was worth a shot. Thanks for looking into it.
