Citations keep renumbering & not adding to references

Hello, I tried to add new citations on my Word document, but it began renumbering the references from 1 and would not show up in the bibliography at the end of the document. When I clicked the "add/edit bibliography" tab, the references did show up, right in the middle of the document after the first new citation, and again numbered incorrectly. I want the new citations to be numbered appropriately with the older ones, and smoothly integrate into the references list. For reference, I'm on a PC using Windows '13 and using AMA style, and my citations are automatically updating on the Word plugin and the Zotero app.
