Multi site, multi user, multi concurrent editing capability

I'm something of a numpty in terms of software use and the language about it, so forgive me my clumsiness.
I'm trying to locate a referencing software that will meet needs which EndNote doesn't.
I work in a distributed team. Each team member in a different country. We work using Sharepoint and one drive (both PC and Mac). We commonly work together (or separately) on Word documents in 'track changes'. Frequently we do this concurrently. When doing this we often change embedded references or text that includes a reference. I have been using EndNote. BUT, the EndNote files are getting corrupted. Can Zotero cope with this kind of working arrangement - if so how? I'm very keen to learn if there is a solution out there! Best wishes and thanks for your help! Paul
