Zoterbib manual entry problem

When teaching ZoteroBib to my 8th graders, we noticed that sometimes, when using manual entry (generally for books), it would accept all the information, but generate a title-only citation. Did not happen in a reliable pattern, so I can't predict when it would or wouldn't.

We were using generally on Dell laptops, with Google Chrome as our browser.
  • Are you saying that the non-title data doesn't actually save — such that if you click the item again, you don't see it in the editor — or just that it doesn't show up in the citation? If the latter, do you have an existing bibliography where that's happening? Can you use "Link to this version" and provide a link?

(Also note that, while it shouldn't matter for this, as in Zotero you should very rarely actually need to use manual entry in ZoteroBib. If you're entering a book, you should just type in the ISBN, and ZoteroBib will retrieve the metadata.)
  • So it's the second...it just doesn't show up in the citation...here's a link to one I just created: https://zbib.org/a52e1c7150094bc39b828f8e1ac0693d

We did find that entering the ISBN often solved the problem. On the one hand, I may just need to shift to teaching my students that way. On the other, it's helpful (especially with books, since the information is easier to find and enter) for them to see the connection between entering the information themselves and how it gets formatted into the citation. Thanks!
  • Interesting...when I clicked the link myself, I see the whole citation... but when I use the Export -- Copy to Clipboard, this is what I get:

Bi, Justin. “You’re Welcome (Moana) - Trombone Cover.” YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZmwa7wqfos&feature=youtu.be. Accessed 14 Oct. 2019.
    Secret Keeper.
Who Was Edgar Allan Poe | Edgar Allan Poe Museum. https://www.poemuseum.org/who-was-edgar-allan-poe. Accessed 18 Sept. 2019.

So it's saving correctly on the link, but exporting directly is not right.
  • You're saying if you load https://zbib.org/a52e1c7150094bc39b828f8e1ac0693d and click Copy to Clipboard and paste into the text box here, you only see "Secret Keeper" for the second entry?
  • Sorry for my delay. If I load the link above, it shows correctly. But if students are on the screen where they generated the citations in Manual Cite, only the title shows. It seems like they would have to go through the additional step of exporting the version and visiting it that way.
  • No, there shouldn't be any difference between copying from the editor or from the viewer — I was just asking about that URL because you seemed to suggest that it demonstrated the problem.

Can you provide steps from an empty bibliography to consistently reproduce the problem?
