Wiping Page Numbers of Previously Cited Items in Chrome on MacOS

When I add a citation for a source already cited, Zotero has been wiping the page numbers (which I add manually) from all prior citations. I eventually turned off "Automatically update citations" to prevent this from happening, but have since been running into errors. When I try to add a new citation, I get an error message. When the citation loads, it is always the full citation highlighted in grey, even if I have cited the source before. For example, I cite Madley frequently, but when I added a citation (57), Zotero gave me the full citation even though I had cited Madley just the paragraph before (48, 50)!
