Removing parentheses in footnotes/endnotes but not body text

Hi, thanks for all the work on Zotero, and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. If so I'm afraid I can't find the answer.
I've converted a long manuscript from MHRA to MLA. It's mostly worked really well, but I am having trouble with parentheses/brackets in footnotes. I still have footnotes as allowed in MLA where I have more information on the reference I provide. When the MLA uses footnotes or endnotes, however, they do not have the references in parenthesis. The example they give is below. How can I keep the parenthetical citations in the body text, but remove the parentheses from my footnotes?
EXAMPLE FROM MLA
Often the heroine and her eventual husband are kept apart initially by misunderstanding, by the hero’s misguided attraction to another, by financial obstacles, or by family objections.1
Note
See Green, especially 1-7, and also Hinnant, for further description and discussion of the courtship novel. Green considers Mansfield Park a courtship novel, including it in a list of such novels in the period 1740-1820 (163–64).

EXAMPLE FROM MY WORK
On enargeia, phantasia, and synonyms see (Plett; Webb 87–106; Zanker; Maniates 28; 328)
