dashes between the letters and the words

whenever i add a citation to as a footnote to a word document, dashes appear between the letters and the words of the subject citation. in order to fix this dashing issue i have to keep ''refresh''ing. Is there any permanent solution for this problem?

I am not sure what you mean. Can you take a screenshot, upload it somewhere (e.g. Imgur or Dropbox) and post a link here?
