Installation Difficulties on Debian/Xfce

While following the instructions at to install Zotero on Linux, I have encountered a problem whose solution I was not able to locate here on the forum. I'm using Debian 9 with Xfce 4.12.

I have downloaded the zip file from, extracted it to `/localscratch/user/Zotero`, and see both a script `zotero` and a desktop configuration file `Zotero` in that directory, along with many other files.

However, when I attempt to run the `zotero` script as instructed, I get:
`user@host:/localscratch/user/Zotero$ ./zotero
./zotero: line 13: 19853 Segmentation fault "$CALLDIR/zotero-bin" -app "$CALLDIR/application.ini" "$@"`
The `zotero-bin` file is present in this directory, as extracted from the zip file.

When I try running `zotero-bin` directly, I get:
`user@host:/localscratch/user/Zotero$ ./zotero-bin
ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 21094
ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child
ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal...
Segmentation fault`

I am not sure if this is related to or the rather cryptic Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • ./zotero-bin is irrelevant.

    If ./zotero isn't working for you, I'm not really sure what to suggest — there's likely some sort of incompatibility with libraries on your system. Are you able to run Firefox 52 ESR?
