Citations created in Google Doc does not convert to DOCX format

I inserted citations in a google document using Zotero, chose 'switch word processors', and downloaded the file in DOCX and ODT format. However, once opened by Word as mentioned, 'refresh' did not convert the citations at all. It seems that Zotero is having problems locating any citation in the downloaded document.

version => 5.0.72, platform => MacIntel, oscpu => Intel Mac OS X 10.13, locale => en-US, appName => Zotero, appVersion => 5.0.72, extensions => Zotero LibreOffice Integration (5.0.20.SA.5.0.72, extension), Zotero Word for Mac Integration (5.0.24.SA.5.0.72, extension), Shockwave Flash (32.0.0.223, plugin)

Word version => 16.27
  • Did the file you downloaded say ZOTERO_TRANSFER_DOCUMENT at the top?
  • Yes it did.
  • Go to the Cite pane of the Zotero preferences, reinstall the Word plugin, restart Word, and try again.

    If that doesn't help, would you mind sending either the whole downloaded .docx or a copy of it through at least the first citation to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
  • So it looks like there's currently an issue where if you modified a citation, it isn't properly restored on the other side — either to the original state or the modified state.

    We've fixed it to restore it to the original state in the latest Zotero beta, and we're going to look into whether we can properly keep modified citations.

    In the current version, you can restore citations that didn't properly convert back by clicking on them, clicking Add/Edit Citation, pressing Return to go past the (possibly long and scary) warning about a modified citation, and then pressing Return in the citation dialog. You'll need to reapply any modifications to the citations (though ideally you'd want to fix those in Zotero, apply locators/etc. in the plugin interface, or make changes that can't be applied another way after unlinking citations in a copy of the document, right before submitting it).
