Upgrade StorageProblem with disappearing references

I'm working with Word 2003 Professional. Today and yesterday, Zotero began to run through several citations in my document every time I inserted a new citation, telling me that these citations no longer exist in the database and asking me to delete them. It is doing this every time I open up the Zotero plugin in Word in order to insert a new citation.
Yesterday it was just one citation - that citation had indeed disappeared from my library (even though I didn't delete it). I replaced it, but today it's telling me it's gone again, even though it's not. It's also telling me others are gone - some are really gone (don't know how) but others are alive and well, and Zotero's not recognizing them.
I have 2.0b6.2 - would appreciate help, as Zotero 'freezes' for a while every time it runs through my citations, and it's making work time a lot longer.
