Each PDF is stored in a separate folder?

I created a collection, and created many items with PDFs in it. But I found that Zotero stores each PDF in a separate folder under the Storage folder on my hard drive. I would like to have Zotero store all PDFs in one folder for each collection. How can I do that? Is the storage behavior described above due to my incorrect set-up of Zotero? Thanks.

    This is the normal behavior. Manage everything from Zotero.

    The Zotero storage system isn’t designed to be used outside of Zotero. The idea is that you manage your files using Zotero. This has many advantages. For example, you can have an item in multiple collections without duplicating the file in many folders on your computer.

    It’s possible to set up a human-readable file system using the Zotfile plugin, but I really suggest not trying to manage your PDF locations yourself.
