Deletion of custom citation style?

A few years ago a friend created a custom style for me based on the MHRA style, because when citing Documents (Item Type) e.g. primary sources, the date would be condensed to the year rather than specific date(s). He did some edit to the script and created a custom style which I used without problem.

Now when I try to find the custom style it isn't there, plus when I open my old documents, it asks me to change the citation style because they are based on that custom style. Is there any way of retrieving it, and is this normal that it would get deleted?
