Attempted to up-date Zotero and received message that the installation had failed. Problem persists each time the up-date is attempted.

    What was the exact message? You're getting an error about installation of the LibreOffice plugin, so if you're referring to that (or even if you're not), you should start by upgrading to a current LibreOffice 6 version.
