Recognizing previously filed items /w Zotero Connector
When the user views a previously imported item in the browser, it could be helpful if zotero connector indicates this. For instance, it could display a green checkmark. This could help the user avoid duplicate items with less work.
Questions
1. How would you feel about the feature?
2. What current practices reduce or eliminate the need for this feature?
3. What usability or security issues could the feature cause?
For question 3 I anticipate reliability issues. The feature may fail to recognize previously filed items (false negative), or may fail to identify a webpage or PDF whose contents have been updated since the last import or snapshot (false positive).
False positives would seem especially likely for page snapshots, since content can be dynamic. I don't know how to (reliably) version a page with dynamic content; approaches I know would hinge on extracting and hashing the "relevant" content of a page - a dicey proposition to be sure.
This raises another question:
4. Would you find the feature useful if it only worked for PDFs?
