New to Zotero - Public Library search function?

I am new to Zotero and have a question about public libraries and groups. One of my colleagues has amassed an enormous library of medical literature papers and has agreed to make the library open for viewing for members of one of my workgroups.

Her library is only in My Library, not in a group.

Does she have to create a group and then copy her library to the group library? She has almost 1,000 journal articles and research papers in her My Library.

OR, can she simply make her My Library public?

Thanks in advance,
Keira
  • Sorry, I didn't realize that no one had responded to this yet -- it depends on the exact goal. If she just want members of your group to be able to view the library online on zotero.org, making it public is fine.

On the other hand, the following use cases can only be fulfilled by a group (this is a non-exhaustive list covering what I think is most relevant for your example):
    - Accessing files attached to items
    - Viewing the library in a local instance of Zotero
    - Providing more fine-grained access control (e.g. your working group has access, but not the whole world)
