in-text citation sorting for American Meteorological Society style

de facto, the in-text citations for AMS journals are sorted by date, although that is not explicitly mentioned at

I guess it should be fixed, e.g. by inserting

into the citation-tag.

Can you point to an example paper showing that behavior?

hm... – they seem to follow a loose policy. Some papers use date sorting, e.g.

https://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/full/10.1175/JCLI-D-18-0372.1

some others sort alphabetically

Okay, in that case, we should leave it without sorting and allow users to do as they wish.

(I sometimes wonder about that -- wouldn't some consistency be better? I don't think anyone uses random order...)

Yeah, I'd probably say picking some sort order would be better for most styles. It's easy enough to reorder by dragging items around.
