Numbering duplicate citations.

I have used quite a few references twice in my word document. How can I number the reference based on it's second mention?
So, if I have references [1], [2], [3] and [1] I want them to be like [3], [1], [2] and [3]
  • You can't. Numbering of citations is determined by their order in the bibliography which can be either sequentially or alphabetically (typically by author).

Why would you want to do that, though?

I was writing my thesis. I have pulled up a few important references in my 'Introduction' chapter but I don't want them numbered 1, 2 and 3. Because of this when these references are actually used in the body they look like 35, 36, 2 and 37...
    which is not nice.

But since it is not possible, it's okay.
