Upgrade StorageZotero connectors not working with Google Scholar on Google Chrome or Safari

I have been using Zotero for two years now to collate citations using Google Scholar. I find its ability to correctly translate metadata from Google Scholar is unrivalled.
However, my method of using the connector on normal google scholar pages (e.g. https://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar?cluster=4875213934138374432&hl=en&as_sdt=2005&sciodt=0,5&as_ylo=2015) has today started failing.
I still get the box to click multiple references but then I get the "An error occurred while saving this item" message.
I have followed all the troubleshooting advice on the link and am running up to date versions of Zotero, Chrome and the Zotero connector plugin. The exact same thing is happening to me on Safari.
The connector still saves snapshots but this is not what I primarily use Zotero for.
