Sync problem - Failure code 0x80004005

I am running Zotero on two computers, both running Vista and latest versions of Firefox (3.0.11) and Zotero (2.0b5). Have been using manual sync--clearing out trash, orphans, etc on the desktop, then pressing sync. Then doing the same on the laptop. The laptop failed to sync today, giving "Failure Code 0x80004005 (NS_Error_Failure)"

I reported the error (Report ID 2054686459) and am now sending debug reports to the support email address.

  • The debug output you sent isn't complete. You'll need to adjust the "Screen Buffer Size", as explained on the debug output page, and copy the complete output from the sync attempt.

  • Unfortunately it looks like 9999 isn't long enough in this case. Try changing extensions.zotero.debug.level to 3 in about:config (to skip certain messages), restarting Firefox, and generating the output again. Thanks.

  • Just a quick note-- tried to do a "reset: restore from zotero server" to the laptop and received a message that I needed to enter a username and password in the settings pane, but my username and password were in fact entered correctly there. Tried checking "automatic sync", re-entered the username and password, tried to force a restore from server, to no effect. Am considering uninstalling zotero, re-installing and trying to sync.

    "Restore from Zotero server" workaround is three posts down from there (or just wait until the next beta is out later today).
