Dragging PDF--wrong file shows up in Zotero

I have this odd problem that occasionally happens. I am increasingly building my library by downloading a pdf, dragging it into the Zotero pain, and then retrieving metadata for it (particularly since Science Direct doesn't seem to scrape).

I sometimes get this problem where the PDF file saved on my (Mac) Desktop shows up in Zotero as a completely unrelated webpage (but one that I happened to view earlier), rather than the desired PDF. The only way to avoid this is to close out of Firefox.

Any insights into how to fix this?

    Is the wrong item the one that's created by Retrieve Metadata from PDF, or the PDF attachment itself?

    Does restarting fix the problem? As in, is this a display-only issue?

    It's caused by the PDF. When I drag the PDF in, it indexes a different item. Restarting FF seems to fix it.
