Bibliography Code Fields again

I have opened a Word (2016) doc I was working on yesterday. The Code Fields have disappeared and File-Options-Advanced-Field Shading = Always does not make any difference.
Also there are no versions to restore to...

help?
  • Which format did you save the file as (.doc, .docx, .odt, something else)?
  • correction!!! It's an ODT file.
  • What do I do now?
  • And you've tested that Zotero actually doesn't recognize fields, e.g. by adding a bibliography or by putting your cursor in a citation and clicking "add/edit citation"?

If so, I'm afraid I don't know what to tell you, but the Zotero connection is gone. As far as we know, there are only two ways of removing fields:
    1. Saving in an unsupported format or from an unsupported software (e.g. LibreOffice, Google docs)
    2. Clicking "unlink citations" or using Word's own ability to remove field codes (select all then ctrl+shift+F9 I believe)

  • I'm getting this message even when I save the file as a .docx

    "Zotero experienced an error -
Attempting to generate bibliography without having updated processor items"
  • If you saved the file in Word as ODT, that would be the cause of the Field code loss. ODT doesn’t support fields, so your citations will become plain text. You will need to work with an older version or re-insert the citations.
  • great guys, thanks for this.
