variable URL is not recognized

Hi there,

I referenced to CSL specification, URL is a variable, however, it's not recognized when I try to test URL with the item type set to article-journal (The URL filed has value). However, when URL: http://www.example.com is put in Extra field, then test URL will return value.

Are there rules for type of item to use the specific variable?

    In Zotero preferences, in the Cite pane, check the box for “Include URL for paper references”

    Is it the style file that determine whether to include a URL or not?

    The style logic controls whether to print the URL, yes, but this preference is Zotero controls whether the URL field is exported for the item. There are plans to remove that setting, but there are a large number of styles that would need to be updated, so it’s slow going.
