Slim down separate note window

I'm a fan of editing my notes in a separate window, which I can keep active overtop of a pdf while reading. However, it would be great if the note window could be slimmed down a bit: a view menu, for example, which would allow us to drop the huge pane at the bottom with the 'Parent item/Related/Tags' fields, and to drop or at least condense the tool pane at the top, which in mine at least has two rows of tools which could easily fit onto one.
