Word for Mac Freezes after trying to edit citation

My Zotero works fine adding new citations. However, every time I try to copy or delete existing citations or even just put the cursor in the citation will cause Word freeze and I have to force quit. The problem reproduces in new documents with a single citation as well. I'm using Word 16.22 and Zotero 5.0.60. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    What is your version of MacOS? I recently upgraded to Mojave and encountered numerous problems. Other users had lots of problem too. One solution often suggested was to reset the SMC.

    Thanks. I have fixed the problem. I think the source of the problem is that I have a Mendeley plugin file in the word startup folder. After deleting the file, the problem is solved.
