MLA 8 citation is incorrect

Dear Zotero,

Greetings, I hope all is well. I wanted to inquire when there will be a fix to the MLA 8 citation for Zotero. It is incorrect and does not even ask for a page number when asking for lecture citations
  • Sorry, you'd have to say more.
Generally speaking, of course, we think that the MLA8 style we supply is correct, but given that there's essentially limitless number of item types that you can cite in MLA, I'm sure there are examples where the output doesn't correspond to the manual, but you'd have to provide a bit more specifics (e.g. if something is a _lecture_ I wouldn't expect page numbers. If it's a lecture manuscript/notes, I'd probably cite it as such).
  • Here is an example from zotero: Jane Doe. Lecture Example. www.google.com. Lecture 1, United States.

Here is the format from purdue owl: Stein, Bob. “Reading and Writing in the Digital Era.” Discovering Digital Dimensions, Computers and Writing Conference, 23 May 2003, Union Club Hotel, West Lafayette, IN. Keynote Address.

For in text citations the format is (Author last name, Page #) But zotero only includes the last name.
  • There are some problems with citing speeches in item type that we can look at, but the page number thing is a misunderstanding:
    a) MLA citations don't require a page number in all cases. They only require them if you cite from a specific page (which you presumably wouldn't for a lecture) and
    b) If you do have a page number you want to cite, you'd add this via the Word add-on when you cite, see https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_usage#customizing_cites
  • Dear Adam Smith,

Thank you so much. I agree with the MLA number case, and that is an error on my part. When will the MLA for the other issues for Zotero be updated?
