How to import reference using DOI with abstract

I got this thread, https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/67946/import-abstract-into-existing-citations, which said, "DOI lookup uses CrossRef primarily, which doesn’t store Abstract data. " Is there a solution to import import reference using DOI with abstract in Zotero standalone.

I'm afraid not, no. CrossRef is the main repository of DOI metadata and where it doesn't have the abstract it's very hard for Zotero to get it.

The short answer is "No". DOI lookup uses the reference websites that allow you to easily find an article online. I've had to use the DOI import enough times that I've learned to quickly cut-and-paste the abstract from the webpage to Zotero. With the DOI you should be able to get to articles on the publishers' websites.

Know too that some publishers appear to provide an abstract but only provide the first 150-200 characters. Cambridge University Press comes to mind. (In an earlier post I commented on this problem with IOS press ans some Oxford journals.) Even if you manually download the article using RIS the complete abstract isn't offered and cut and paste is necessary. The full abstract isn't provided for Zotero to capture.

Emiliano just wrote an import translator at my suggestion using Microsoft Academic Search that would work to add abstracts.

Export your Collection to a CSV file. Then import that CSV to a new Collection using the Bulk-Mas-Import translator.
