BASE cf. DATA directories
Please confirm, correct, and/or clarify following frequently-used terms.
The BASE DIRECTORY is the path/place that the user stipulates PDFs and other attachments are stored within folders based on authors and dates.
The DATA DIRECTORY refers to the path/place where Zotero basically does its own bookkeeping, including, depending upon configuration, putting PDF files inside randomly-named eight-character folders.
The terms seem counter-intuitive to me, and possibly to others who associate "base" with something like "command center." Yet, in any case, the distinction is obviously key to one's understanding a large percentage of the content of this helpful forum. Thank you for clarifying the terms and their underlying rationales.

What you write is basically right except that Zotero itself will not save anything to the base directory regardless of settings. You can set up ZotFile to do so, but will have to separately set the ZotFile custom folder to the base directory (or a folder within the base directory)
