Citation data for sub-collection, tag or full library

Imagine you had a sub-collection (or tag) that contained all the articles you deemed important on a topic of interest. Wouldn't it be fantastic if there was then a way to see when any of those papers received new citations (i.e. specify a date and receive citation information from that date onwards for the whole sub-collection). This would be a hugely comprehensive way of remaining abreast of new research in a topic.

Can this be developed?
  • A good dataset to look against is OpenCitations, a CC-BY dataset:
    http://opencitations.net
This is not comprehensive and mostly DOI-to-DOI.

Other sources are proprietary (e.g. Web of Science, Scopus) but could rely on a Zotero user's library subscriptions or own API key.

I'm happy to talk to any developer who wants to think through how this could be done.
