zotero broken - help!

Hi

I just tried to do something that has gone wrong. I cut and pasted my entire Zotero file from Program Files x86 on my own device, and pasted it into my shared drive on the UCL network. I then couldn’t access my database with the file in the new location, so I cut and pasted the file back into Program Files on my computer (I’d still like to be able to move this to my UCL drive so that I can access it on the desktops if required, but that’s not my priority right now).

Now I can’t access Zotero at all. I get an error message. Please can you advise what I need to do to correct it and get my (hundreds of) bibliography references back.
Thank you
(note there are no updates to be installed).

  • Hi

Update to the discussion I started earlier today. I've now got access to the Zotero main screen, with no error message, but My Library has disappeared and it's just blank. I haven't deleted any of the files within Zotero so I know it's here somewhere, but I don't know what file to import. Please can you advise what the file name is which actually stores the Zotero data for all my references.

    Thank you
    Chris
  • thankfully this is all resolved! For the benefit of readers from the future who've had the same problem:
    1) don't be as silly as me and mess around with the program files
    2) check the default data file location: for me this was C:Users\[name]\Zotero. The file you're looking for is the SQLITE file, usually a few megabytes. Then I just set that location as the source for files, by going on Zotero Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Files and Folders, and selecting Data Directory Location, then picking the correct file location.

    Panic Over!
