How to setup WebDav?
Hi there,
sorry to disturb you, but I think I'm too stupid for Zotero.
I'm just not able to find an option where I can put my url into.
After watching some tutorials, they always put the url on the sync tab, but there isn't such an option on my Zotero.
Zotero version: 5.0.54 (the newest in the ppa)
OS version: Linux Mint 18 Sylvia, all updates made
Hardware: Old Acer laptop from 2014
WebDav: Nextcloud on a RPi 3B+
What I tried:
- Open options, register "Sync" (only username and password are to find there)
- Find an extension (nothing found)
- Have a look into the configuration editor (didn't find anything useful, so didn't touch anything)
- Used Google to find a tutorial - nothing to find that's explaining why I can't put an url somewhere (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UV6Ce3evUY).
- Used the Zotero docs, but there isn't a tutorial and there isn't any step by step explanation, only the text that says I should put my url somewhere. The only provided screenshot there doesn't say where to find that.
The only thing I find again and again is this:
"To set up Zotero syncing, you first need to set up data syncing (for item metadata, notes, and the fulltext index) using your zotero.org username and password. After you link your Zotero account with the Zotero client program, you will see settings for managing data syncing and file syncing."
You hopefully won't tell me, you are FORCED to create a Zotero account just to be able to sync anything anywhere?
I just don't want to sync my files to any service on the internet. If our provider decides we shouldn't have internet, I can totally forget my bachelor thesis. And yes, this happens from time to time. Germany is still stone age, after all.
If Zotero only can be used with multiple computers with an Zotero account, I will uninstall it and get back to manage my sources manually.
Joplin is much easier to use.
Regards

If you don't want to sync to Zotero servers and want to access your Zotero data from multiple computers, you can store your Zotero data directory on an external/flash drive and configure Zotero to use that data directory on each computer. You'd just want to be careful to close Zotero completely before unmounting the drive.
To be clear, your data is always stored locally, so even if you were temporarily without internet you'd still be able to access the latest version of your library that was on that computer. There's really no reason not to use Zotero just because you don't want to use syncing.
