zotero 5 metadata retrieval not working for mac

hi, I used zotero 4 with no problems and after downloading zotero 5, metadata retrieval process firstly takes forever and freezes and just doesn't work for pdfs I know have metadata. please help. I'm using mojave. haven't had any issues with zotero 4.

There was a brief interruption and slowdown of PDF metadata retrieval a couple hours ago. It should be back to normal now.

If you're still having trouble, we'd want to see a Debug ID for a retrieval attempt that fails or is slow.
