Help on syncing attachments with online storage service

Hi all,

Newbie question: Although I read Zotero's documentation and searched in this forum, it is not clear to me how one may move the storage folder to an online backup service (i.e., OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.). I understand one should not move the zotero.sqlite file as it may be corrupted. I only want to be able to use my attachments in multiple computers. Therefore, I should move my Zotero storage folder and (in the advanced preferences tab) set the base directory path to the OneDrive folder? If I do this, the database file won't be moved, only the attachments? And does Zotero links automatically these attachments to the database after the storage folder is moved?

Thanks for your help and kind regards
  • No, what you're describing wouldn't work. Don't touch anything in the data directory itself.

The simplest way of using Zotero on multiple computers is of course to use Zotero's own sync. Yes, you have to pay over a certain limit of files, but you'll also never have to think about this again.

The other two methods to sync files between computers -- using webDAV and using linked files and relative links, typically involving ZotFile -- are described here: https://www.zotero.org/support/sync#file_syncing .
