Just upgraded from 300MB to 2GB and Zotero says no storage left

why does it say that i have no storage left right after i upgraded? prior to purchasing more storage, it said my library was just over the 300MB that was available. now, i purchased 2GB and it says that my library is just over 2GB. when i get info on my zotero app on my desktop it says it is only taking up 131MB. does anyone know why this is happening or a way to check the full size of your library to know how much storage space i need?
  • You can't get an exact assessment about how much server space you need, but it should never be more than the space Zotero takes up locally. You'd want to look at the size of the storage folder in your data directory (https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data ), though, not the size of the application.
  • thanks adam! turns out its 2.4GB. looks like its going to cost another $40 a year to back it up. do people know of other, less expensive, ways to secure your zotero data?
  • You shouldn't necessarily think of Zotero storage as principally a back-up solution: really its main function is to allow for syncing of files between devices and to the website.

If you're just interested in backing up, you can find all sorts of tools that will copy the content of the Zotero data folder to a different location at regular intervals, and you can sync that copy using any cloud tool (google, Dropbox, etc.) you're interested in.

If you're not using files in groups, you could also look at WebDAV sync: https://www.zotero.org/support/sync#webdav
