Export collection (pdfs) to txt files for text analysis

Hello, I'd like to export a collection from zotero to a group of txt files (to then do some text analysis on the group of files). I haven't had any success yet, any advice? Thanks
  • This might be relevant:

Otherwise, to manually get the PDFs from a given collection out of Zotero, go to the collection, type "pdf" in the search bar in All Fields & Tags mode, and do a Select All in the list, which should select all the PDF items. (You might need to deselect a few other items that include the text "pdf".) You can then just drag those to a folder in your filesystem, which will copy them there.
  • Thanks for the response.

I've caught the posts about extracting the PDFs, I was wondering if there's a way to export straight from Zotero to txt files... or I need to do as you suggested and then use 3rd party software to convert to txt (which is fine but thought I'd check if it could be done directly).

And, yes, I'm intending on exploring Voyant but also want to test this R-Script citation network tool on the txt files https://www.researchgate.net/publication/327790285_R_script_for_creating_a_cross-citation_network
  • Yes, if you went the manual route, you would need to convert to text yourself.

(Zotero technically has the extracted text, but it's only meant for internal use, and getting to it would require enough scripting that it's easier to just run pdftotext (which is what we use) or similar yourself.)
