Mac OS 10.14 (Safari) Plug-in no longer supported.

I am new to Zotero, I was looking to use it for research for a book I am writing, but when I download the extension to install to Safari, it says that third-party extensions are no longer supported through downloads.

I looked through Apple's extensions in their store and it is not showing up...

Is there any update upon when this will be accessible through Safari? Because otherwise I will be forced to use Opera or Chrome...
