Zotero APA6 not adding a,b on ambiguous references

I'm working with the Zotero standalone program for my referencing and I have found that it is not adding the year suffix when the same authors and year happens.

The style already has: disambiguate-add-year-suffix="true"

What I want: (Hong et al., 2004a, Hong et al.,2004b)
What it is currently doing: (Hong et al., 2004; Hong, Thong, & Tam, 2004)

It also appears that it has also not put the two articles in alphabetical order in the bibliography, one appears to be listed under W for his first name instead of Hong.

Any ideas where I should look to see where the issue may lay?
  • Have you clicked refresh? The other thing to note is that, if Hong has different co-authors, APA will add those to the citation and note use a, b. That's what the APA manual requires.
  • Regarding the sorting, did you previously have this name entered in single-field mode (as "W Hong") or with the first and last names switched? If so, there is a minor bug where the sort order doesn't update until Zotero re-initializes its citation processor, which happens when you switch styles or restart Word/Zotero.
  • Thanks guys, I got it sorted.

Refresh didn't work however changing the reference style and then back again fixed it.
