Word plugin: unable to communicate: zotero is in safe mode

Running Windows 10, Word 2016 and Zotero 5.0.55. All smooth till recently, when I had to do some uninstall and reinstall of Firefox (various versions). In the process (maybe), Zotero seems to have lost its ability to talk to Word. The add-on is still visible in Word, but when I click on Add Citation, it says "unable to connect...". When I go to Zotero itself and open Tools>Add-ons, I see "All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode". Not able to figure out what this is or how it happens. An old post said "reboot your system and things will be fine". tried that but did not help.
  • Solved! Not sure exactly how, but just shutting down Word, Zotero, & Firefox and starting them in the sequence Firefox, Zotero and then Word seems to have solved the problem!
