Which is the correct entry type for an online publication of a PDF?

    What sort of PDF? A journal article? A book chapter? A government report? Use the type that corresponds to what the PDF actually is substantively.

    That's precisely the problem, none of these categories seems to fit.
    It is not part of a book
    It is not part of a journal
    It is certainly not a government report

    It is simply an article, published only as PDF as far as I can see, and only distributed through a website. It is certainly not a book. I have so far categorised it as a webpage, but that's not really what it is, either.

    Such independent articles are becoming more and more the norm for small scale scientific research.
