Mac problems - word for Mac 2016 cannot communicate with Zotero

Hi,

My problem is very similar to Rich's here; (https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/68373/word-could-not-communicate-with-zotero) however the solution does not work for me.

I have recently installed both office for Mac 2016 (via my University's licence) and Zotero onto a new laptop (both upgraded to latest version), having used previously without issue (V.4) with Word 2010 on my old laptop.

However the tab in word is not appearing on my ribbon. I noticed that when I go to Zotero > preferences > cite >word processor it only gives me the option to install the ad on for Libre Office. Never the less I manually copied the Zotero.dot file into my word startup file. Zotero now appears in the word ribbon but on clicking it now says 'Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero I open and try again.'

So I am rather stumped. It still doesn't appear in the Zotero preferences pain, and if I look under Zotero > tools > add-ons there are no add-ons present.

I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions!

Thanks,

Fred

Go to Tools → Add-ons → Extensions in Zotero and look for the Zotero Word for Mac Integration extension. If it says it's incompatible, you installed an older, incompatible version for Zotero for Firefox, and you should remove it and restart Word.

If it says something else, let us know exactly what it says.
  • if I look under Zotero > tools > add-ons there are no add-ons present
What do you mean by that? Are you looking in the Extensions tab? You would have to at least see the LibreOffice extension listed for the LibreOffice option to show up in the preferences.
  • Apologies, I wasn't very clear. Yes, under extensions it has the Libre Office extension, but only that - nothing for word.
  • Could you provide a Report ID?

    After that, try reinstalling Zotero.
  • Ah, so I just tried a reinstall (for the second time) and this times a box popped up saying Zotero is installing the word for Mac plug in. All working now - still mystified as to what the problem was.

Thanks very much for your assistance!
  • It looks like this can happen if you run Zotero from the downloaded disk image instead of dragging it to Applications first and running it from there.
