Word 2010 plugin only gives progress bar when trying to add citation or bibliography!

Report ID: 1532949300

After the recent update, my plugin for word just stopped working. It only gives the green progress bar and nothing else when I try to add a citation or bib. If I try the doc pref or the other buttons it just does nothing!
Just to clarify if I select add citation the green progress bar comes up and nothing happens. So usually you would get the text box where you can type in what you want to cite but that does not come up. All that happens is the green bar.........and that bar just stays there.

Any advice? I tried reading the forum and doing some of the troubleshoot stuff but nothing helped.

Thanks
  • How many items are cited in your paper? Does it work correctly if you insert a citation into a new empty document?
  • I have 39 citations.
It does not work on an empty document also.
  • What specific versions of Windows, Word, and Zotero are you using?
  • Okay, so its the Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, Version: 14.4734.1000 (32-bit).
    Zotero is version: 5.0.55
and its windows 10, version: 1803 (OS build 17134.228)
  • I'm not sure if this will fix the issue, but your version of Word is very out of date. Try to update to Word 2010 Service Pack 2 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39667) and see if the problem persists.
  • Thanks gonna try it now!

Your zotero database is corrupt, this is most likely due to storing it on a synced folder (like dropbox) or a network disk. This prevents Zotero from fully initializing and using the citation plugin. You can use the Zotero database repair tool to try and fix it.
  • Okay so I tried fixing it with updating everything and that did not work.

I have also used the repair tool and that did not work as well.
  • The repair tool would definitely fix the above error if you did the steps right, unless your data directory is still in a cloud storage folder like Dropbox (though even then it's likely to work for a short time).

Make sure, with Zotero closed, that you're replacing the existing zotero.sqlite with the copy from the repair tool.
