opening adobe pdf files generates nonsense code!

All of a sudden I'm unable to correctly open any pdf within zotero browser - all I get is some keywords, numbers and wingding-type symbols. If I export the file it is correctly opened as per usual. Any insights, solutions most welcome!!! I'm running 1.0.10
