HELP! Chicago manual style change from superscript to numbers in brackets???

Hello

Just about to submit when I read "Within text, the references should be reference number identified and placed in square brackets on the line, e.g. [37]" but Word has put mine all as superscript!!!

Saw some old solutions for previous versions of Word but need one that will work with something more recent (eg 15.41!!)

Thanks in advance..!
  • I'm not sure where you read this, but I can assure you that the Chicago Manual of Style does not require (or even allow) reference numbers in square brackets.

We do have hundreds of styles that do print numbers in brackets, so switching is easy enough (e.g. IEEE among those pre-installed; Vancouver (bracket) among those most popular).
