Converting a plain text citation to a Zotero entry

Suppose you have a standard research paper, with a set of citations as usual. Suppose you want to import these into your Zotero library.

E.g. say there's a DOI, then it's easy: You resolve the DOI, and hopefully the resulting page will let you import to Zotero.

However, often there isn't one. That means entering/searching for the reference manually.

Obviously there isn't isn't a fool proof approach, but I was wondering what processes other people used?

Thanks!
  • See here https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/importing_formatted_bibliographies

Specifically, http://anystyle.io/ is a really robust and accurate approach that works basically foolproof for journal articles and book chapters and really well for other types.
  • Also, see scholarcy, which just came out -- untested, but claims to do just that & has an open API in addition to the tool itself. The developer posted on a couple of threads here.
  • Lovely - thank you so much, that's really helpful! Just did the first round with anystyle! The bib was a mixed bag, but yes, the journal citations worked well. I exported to bibtex (as thats easily editable) and fixed the refs up a little before importing to Zotero!

    Thanks!
