Chicago Manuel of Style 17th edition (full note) misses "accessed on" in footnotes and bibliography

Hi guys, i really hope you can help me out.

Half a year ago i wrote a text where i used the style "Chicago Manuel of Style 17th edition (full note)". At this time the footnotes had "accessed on" dates when reffering to websites and downloaded pdfs. Now, half a year later i'm writing my bachelor thesis and im using the same style. But the footnotes and the bilbiography does not show any "accessed on" dates. Can please someone tell me how i can fix it?

beste regards
Ben
  • I'd be very surprised if that was the case back then. Chicago Manual has been recommending against including access dates since the 16th edition and as far as I know we've followed that recommendation in all styles. Here it is in full:
An access date—that is, the self-reported date on which an author consulted a source—is of limited value: previous versions will often be unavailable to readers; authors typically consult a source any number of times over the course of days or months; and the accuracy of such dates, once recorded, cannot readily be verified by editors or publishers. Chicago does not therefore require access dates in its published citations of electronic sources unless no date of publication or revision can be determined from the source
  • Oh no, that is so sad. For my bachelor thesis these informations are required. You got an advise for me how i could have those date informations in my thesis? Probably download the 15th edition somewhere?

    Thank you for your answer!
  • Do you have to use Chicago Manual? Most other styles, including those using footnotes, include access dates.

I don't but it's the only style which fits my needs for zitations. I like the Chicagos citing style which is like this "60 Vgl. Illustration Chronicles, „Alex Steinweiss and the World’s First Record Cover“, o. J., http://illustrationchronicles.com/Alex-Steinweiss-and-the-World-s-First-Record-Cover." but i also need the accessed date at the end. I searched trough some other styles but never found something as good as Chicago.

Maybe you have some recommendation for me?
  • I already tried this one, i need a style which has a german part. :/
  • This looks pretty good! It's a bit different from Chicago with adding "Ebd." etc but i think thats fine. Now i have the problem that in all my citations i have the double declaration of the site like this "S. S. 98f.". You know how i can edit the content like "Vgl.", "S." and so on which i added while inserting my citations without disconecting the citation in word with zotero? The only solution i know is to remove als the doubled "S." with my hand, but then all my connections are gone which would be an absolutely mess.^^
  • If you put the cursor on the citation, click on "Add edit citation" you can change the prefix/suffix and locator fields without disconnecting the citations from Zotero.
  • Awesome! Thank you so much. =))
