Saving from Chrome into Group Libraries

When I click save to Zotero it opens Saving to. When i click on the drop down and click more it opens my desktop and the file is saved in unfiled. No other options appear. As well i am not able to move anything out of unfiled.
  • I'm having a hard time following this. Where are you clicking "Save to Zotero" exactly?
What do you mean by "Opens my Desktop"?
What happens when you drag an item from Unfiled to a collection?

Also which versions of Zotero and the Chrome connector?
  • I have the latest versions installed. Sorry. When i click the zotero connector in chrome to save the article it pulls up "Saving to" where i should be able to pick which folder i would like to save it to. Instead when i click more it opens my desktop version and saves the file in the unfiled folder. When i try to click and drag from unfiled to a group folder it have the circle with the line through it. I hope that is more helpful.
  • So first, "Unfiled" isn't a location Zotero saves to. It just is a saved search of all items that are in My Library but not in any collection.

Then "it opens my desktop version" -- so you're saying you're clicking on "More" and that brings up Zotero Standalone in front of your browser? That can't be right (I don't believe that's technically possible) -- are you sure that's really what's going on?

As for drag to the group -- can you manually create items in that group?
  • Yes i click more and it opens the standalone version to show that the article is in unfiled. Yes i don't understand it either. Not sure what to do.
  • Yes i click more and it opens the standalone version to show that the article is in unfiled.
When you click "More…" it should just expand the save popup to show your collections, as in this screenshot. As adamsmith says, it really shouldn't be possible for that to bring Zotero to the front.

If you think that's happening, can you try to take a screen recording of this, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox), and post a link here?
  • Not sure how but now when i hit more it expands the popup to show where to save it. However, i don't have any other options listed just library. Thank you for you help!

It shows you the groups in the copy of Zotero you have open. If it's not showing a group, the group isn't synced to your local Zotero or you don't have write access to the group.
  • how do i sync my standalone to google chrome? I see everything in the standalone.
  • You just don't have write access to the group. You can see this yourself by trying to create an item manually in Zotero. You won't be able to.

You'll need to speak to the group admin if you're supposed to have write access.
