MS Word and Zotero citation: implementing bibliography into Masterdocuments

I am writing a longer piece, which is, why I split up my document into several documents. I wonder, how I could integrate them. Microsoft Word has a master/subdocument function, where several documents, which I am editing one at a time, are put together in a masterdocument. So, I use the Zotero plugin in MS Word in these single documents, but when I try to implement a bibliographie, when working in the master document.

Hints, ideas, explanations anyone?

I found that, despite finding in the zotero documentation that it is not possible, someone seem to made it work (for LibreOffice though). how, i don't know. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/23630/master-documents-working

as well as they seem to work with OpenOffice 3 as this guy states:

Those threads are years old and refer to versions of Zotero that are 2 major versions old. Zotero doesn’t work with OpenOffice at all, let alone OpenOffice 3 (also several major versions old). Even Microsoft discourages the use of Master documents—it is a legacy feature that has never been reliable, and I don’t recommend you use it. If you are able to make it work, feel free to use it. However, I wouldn’t be hopeful, and I wouldn’t expect any development resources to go to making it work.

The recommended approach to working with chapters is to copy-paste them all into one document after you have finished writing, then insert one master bibliography at the end of the book.

Is that true? Do you have a reference?
