Download error / "eject" Zotero

I have a few issues with downloading Zotero to my macbook. When I download the app from the internet, it appears in my dock as I want but there is also an icon on my desktop (which I don't want) that must be "ejected" to disappear, but this basically deletes Zotero from my computer. So I have to constantly re-download it. I didn't have this problem with Zotero on my other computer; I was able to have the app in my dock and not have the icon on my desktop as well.

Zotero is distributed in a disk image like most Mac programs. As it indicates in the disk image, you have to drag the "Zotero" app within the disk image to the Applications folder (which there's a shortcut to in the disk image). You then can eject the disk image and start Zotero as you would any other program, add it to your Dock, etc.
